PlentyofFish.com now has a feature called “Date Night” which allows you to make yourself available for a date next Friday night. This facility is an interesting one as most of the single people on there are looking for a date leading to something more (like a long term relationship), although some enjoy the dating scene more than the idea of a fulfilling relationship.

So why have a feature on the website where you can “register” yourself as being available next weekend…. why not just have a little black book or a calendar where you can list yourself as FREE/ BUSY. Like an Outlook calendar. It would be good to have a calendar entry set to your Google Calendar or Outlook when you’ve arranged a date with someone, and then afterwards give feedback….. or whether you decided to run for the hills after!!!

Pushy women

Below is this mornings text conversation. I have nothing against women who are assertive and say what they want, in fact I actively encourage it. But….. there is a limit. Dating should be about mutually merging with someone not taking over their time. So do I cut ties or change my plans and go for it!? Answers on a postage stamp!

Her: When we meeting?

Me: Today? When?

Her: I cant today I told you that

Me: Ah well I’m thinking of heading to Manchester today

Her: So when can we

Me: Friday morning or Sunday. Righty. Up and active

Her: What about Friday night?

Me: Nope sorry chuck. My nights are all booked up. Friday going out for a meal with this new group I’ve just met

Her: Well I want a date

Will geek for food

Tonight has been one of those interesting ones…. went round to Sonia’s to fix two of her computers in exchange for a full Sunday roast and chocolate cheesecake for afters…. although as I was leaving the office Sally (from the same town) was saying that that offer was really cheap as her and her dad was looking for someone to fix their tech.. and someone wanted £35 an hour….. hmmm maybe I should have asked for a 5 course with wine and whisky.

I managed to get one out of the two machines working (ram issues) and get Sonia her photos back. So after we sat about nattering about how we both needed to get ourselves out there.. and not in the dating scene… but generally. We both came up with an excellent saying

Looking for someone who I can say “I do X Y & Z with my life… would you like to join me”. Rather than going “I’m R from Z this is my personality… this is what i’ve done and this is what i hope to do”. Sharing is just as much about experiences as it is about time.

So yea…. tomorrow I’m ringing up a couple of groups (Zest & Spice). Sonia suggested that as I’ve got the week off I should check out the Tate Modern in Liverpool… either that or wait till Wednesday and we’d go together… I said I’d bring her along to the social meet that Zest have got on…

So high five to you chuck… lovely evening! I think we’ve both inspired each other!!!

Yes Yes… I’m single and on the dating scene… well.. sort of…. finding it a bit tricky so I’m having a bit of a re-think … my previous profile is below for you to have a nosy at and see where I’m coming from.

I’ve got a good job.. nice pad.. lovely cat.. own teeth.. monomagous.. positive outlook.. caring attitude.. honest.. know my own weaknesses so…. technically I tick most of womens boxes, so why am I finding this tough?!

Life for me has always been interesting. I’ve had the opportunity to experience lots and see many things.

I’m an “Expressive Thinker” which means I’m more likely to have a conversation with you about why someone did the thing they did rather than go ugh at footy match. I’ve worked in sales for 3 years so psychology really interests me. I suppose as well that you are likely to get someone who’ll speak their mind and I hope that you’d do the same.

My tag line used to be “Self Confident, non scarred 20something”, i’m honest and to the point, looking for someone i can be friends with as well as emotionally involved in.

SEX… (my tact is legendary!) it’s important in a relationship .. good workout, good for stress relief, helps to keep an emotional bond between two people etc etc (my biology degree will back that one up!!) I’m not going to jump you when I first meet you, but errrr.. yea. it’s important. Anyways… moving on.

Apart from that… forget the whole blonde brunette thing… if you can stimulate my mind your onto a winner.

Done loads with life up till now…. starting off i’ve been a lipstick “scientist” reformulating the No7 luscious range.. then onto pharmaceutical sales..and now a company director.

Dating – Doing it right

Dating… is there a right and a wrong way to go about it. Is it inviting that person over for a lovely home cooked meal, it is about hooking up part way through a night.. is it about a quiet coffee to chat. First dates are so important to guage the other person, not only in them as an individual but also in how serious they are about dating.

Me personally I’m 28 been single since … well officially since.. err not telling…November to be on the safe side. And really thinking its pants, not the kind of snug pants that fit you perfectly (must remember to put those on cos i’m going into town in a sec) but those ones that you do the painting with. So obviously I’m keen to get myself out there… but when does keen become desperate? Seriously…. its a question that really needs answering.

I’m not going to settle for …… in fact hang on … no its not about settling for second best its about meeting someone who ticks enough of your boxes.. but also someone who you actually like and get on with. yea yea the whole mutual attraction is important but there has to be more.. and I think its that “bit more” that takes time to bring out of people.

So how do you do it right? How can someone leave you speechless that they are doing it right? *shrugs* I don’t know.. advice please! (Damn it .. i wish i’d done random dating at school… would soooo have prepared me for this!!)

Reminiscing over photos 1

Been sat in my regular coffee place on a comfy seat listening to “The Lancashire Hotpots” going through some of my old photos. Dug out a few that i havent seen in rather a while and I got reminiscing. Mainly went through walks in the countryside and one folder was Imogen, Dave and me. So there is a double whammy…. hill walking that I havent done in a while…. and.. an ex.

It was interesting for me to look back at my time with Imogen, and for the first time I thought back and smiled to myself without the negative thoughts about our relationship filtering through…. wow.. so this really is it… so to speak.. new chapter… been a good couple of months since I last spoke to her … I guess I think it’s now time to put the past where it should be… and move on.

I could hardly have a blog without commenting on the websites that I partake in.

PlentyofFish.com is one of them. It’s a web based dating site. It’s free. You dont get spam or any random crap. Apart from emails when you get a message on the site (although you can turn that off). You can upload upto 8 photos. There are personality surveys. You can search for people based on postcode (well distance from a postcode)

I like it mainly because (although this could be a marketting ploy) its the work of one person whos made a philanthropical decision to put together a website to bring people together. I do have to say that having in excess of 80000 people online from all over the world takes some serious bandwidth and I doubt that this could really be the work of one man.

Obviously this site is in competition with Match.com, MySinglefriend.com and deos a good job if a little basic to bring people together… but in the end .. what more do most people want…. a photo and a bit of free text… hey… i could do that!

Donna has just told me about another free site… www.freedating.co.uk which i’ll give a go too…. recommendations in this area are always a good thing. Although I’m no so sure on the “my single friend” idea… blind dates would so not be something that I’d be interested in. Being set up with someone just because you are both singel really… doesn’t mean you “have something in common”

A Bad case of the Exs

The past few days have been quite interesting for me when it comes to dating etc etc in that someone I’d had a couple of dates with, got a bad case of the ex over new year (our dates were in 2008). Basically over new year she’d heard a piece of music that reminded her of her ex (who really messed with her head) and that got her thinking “was I the right kind of person for her”.

*shrugs*

After a couple of dates are you really ready to be thinking those kind of things… Have to say… i did good in that I just literally shrugged and said that if she had made that kind of decision that there was no way that i could or should try and change her mind.

All in all… it has been an interesting (re) introduction to the idea of progressive dating…. i’m sure 2009 will be …. bizarre

Internet dating…. how does it compare to dating in “The Real World” TM?

Well firstly take real world speed dating and times it by 1,000,000 …. people want results quickly, as fast as a single left mouse button click…. to jump from complete anonymity to totally besotted in the blink of an eye.

To be honest I think this is where most people go wrong and end up searching for what appears to be a millenia when really all they need to do is let Biology take control. We as mammals… and people form complex social bonds with people that take a while to form. Dont delude yourself into thinking that you can fall in love in 5 minutes… it takes time…. so…. put time in…

Don’t jump from person to person to person … moving on before you have had the time to fully find out if you like the person…. go by this simple …. well.. thing

5 minutes – if you can bear to be around the person.

5 dates – if you can share some mutual compatibility

5 months – if you can live with someone without ripping their head off

5 years – if you’d want to have kids with them

Stick to these .. …. Hey .. what do i know? trust your instincts… just give people a chance to express themselves and for you to feel comfy with them
